Michele Capassowas born on 14/06/1954 in Torre del Greco (Naples). He lives and works in Naples. He grew up in the village of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio near Naples. His father Raffaele was the Mayor of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio for over 37 years.
During that period he did a lot to rebuild the village after its destruction after the eruption of the Vesuvius on 19th March 1944. After his studies he had different activities such as: photographer (1967 - 1972), gallery owner (1972 – 1978), painter (1972) and engineer/architect (1978-1994) realising more than 500 projects in the world.
After a very striking visit to Ex-Yugoslavia, he gave up his usual activities and decided to dedicate himself fully to the Ex-Yugoslav population. Aiming to build dialogue and peace in the Euro-Mediterranean area, he created with Caterina Arcidiacono, Claudio Azzolini, Predrag Matvejevic’, Nullo Minissi and other personalities of culture and science the Fondazione Mediterraneo in 1991.
The institution is functioning as an important Euro Mediterranean network for dialogue between societies and cultures with its headquarters in Naples and different offices in other Euro-Mediterranean countries. Activities of Foundation: “Museum of Peace - MAMT”, “Maison de la Paix – Casa Universale delle Culture”, the “Maison des Alliances” and the “Totem of the Peace”.
